The PACE Leadership Summit last week in Washington, DC drew approximately 200 association attendees along with legislators, compliance officers and attorneys.  The conference spurred some healthy discussions between private industry executives and regulators regarding new laws, regulations and/or practices related to the Federal Trade Commissions, Federal Communications Commission and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.  The open discussions were healthy and could not have been more timely with the new TCPA regulations that go into effect on October 16, 2013.

“Regardless of your stance on the new TCPA regulations, any time you put industry in the same room with legislators, regulators, government compliance officers and private compliance attorneys communicating with one another on a practical level is good!”, stated Stephen Ferber, Managing Partner of Golden Gate BPO Solutions.  “The new TCPA regulations bring with it many challenges which will no doubt be frustrating to both companies and their customers related to the free flow and ease of communications between them, although the intent of the FTC and FCC have always been in the right place – protecting the consumer.  As an association made up of our country’s top companies and thought leaders in the customer engagement industry, I believe PACE and its members brought a respect and perspective to Washington that will continue to prove healthy as we look for ‘balanced’ legislation and enforcement not only to protect the consumer, but to support that same consumer’s ability to maintain a certain ease and convenience when communicating with, or receiving important information from, the companies with whom they choose to transact business with.”

And, as a wonderful intermission from the discussions and debate, all that support PACE’s PAC were treated to a beautiful night on the Potomac River aboard the Virginia Jewel Yacht, taking in the Washington, D.C. monuments, drinks, great food and conversation!  PACE’s PAC fund supports the industry’s best interests through advocacy and promotion of self-regulation.
